There are a lot of Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement plans are often called “Medigap.” There are ten standardized Medicare Supplement plans. Each plan has a letter assigned to it. Even though there are ten plans the most popular plan is Plan G followed by the  Plan N.

Medicare Supplement Plan G

Medicare Plan G has been the most popular plan.  Plan G covers almost all your out of pocket expenses associated with Medicare.  The one thing this plan does not cover is your Part B deductible, which is only $240 for 2024.

This is a great plan for someone who wants to control and budget their medical expenses.

Additionally, there is no network, so you can keep the doctors you know and trust.

Medicare Supplement Plan N

Medicare Plan N has been gaining in popularity.  Plan N also covers many of your out of pocket expenses associated with Medicare.  This plan does not cover your Part B deductible, which is $240 for 2024.  This plan also does not cover excess charges.

Under a Plan N you will also have a copay of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 copay for emergency room visits that don't result in an inpatient admission.

This is a great plan for someone that wants a lower premium and willing to pay a little more when they do use medical services.

Additionally, there is no network, so you can keep the doctors you know and trust.

Medicare Supplement Plan F

Medicare Plan F has lost its popularity for two reasons.  First, its premiums are very expensive compared to the other plans. Second, anyone joining Medicare after January 1, 2020 can not get a Plan F.  You can still get a Plan F if you had joined Medicare before January 1, 2020.

Medicare Plan F covers all your out of pocket expenses associated with Medicare.  This is the most comprehensive plan.
