Find out your Health Care options if you are not of age for Medicare.

Affordable Care Act ( Obamacare)

The Affordable Care Act health insurance open enrollment period is usually between November 1- December 15.  You can qualify for a special enrollment period if one has lost their health coverage, because someone has lost their job.

A very good resource to find out more information is to go to enrollwyo.org or call 211.  They have specially trained, federally certified, local Navigators throughout Wyoming to help you understand the Affordable Care Health Insurance Marketplace, review coverage options with you and help you enroll in the plan of your choice.

Short-Term Medical Insurance

Short-Term medical insurance can help protect you during a coverage gap in your medical insurance.  These plans are different than the ACA plans in a few ways.  You will need to go through underwriting to be approved and short-term medical plans have a more limited coverage than ACA plans.

Here are a few scenarios when to consider a Short-term medical:

  1. Are looking for coverage to bridge you to Medicare

  2. Have missed the open enrollment period and are not eligible for special enrollment under the Affordable Care Act (ACA)

  3. Are waiting for your ACA coverage to start

  4. Are waiting for health insurance benefits to begin at a new job

Health Care Sharing

Health Care Sharing ministries are a form of health coverage where members usually share a religious belief.  Health care sharing is technically not insurance, but it is very similar to traditional health insurance.

This is a great option for someone who doesn't want to join the Affordable Care Act or who likes a more traditional type of health coverage.
